Why This Tournament?

All Men’s programs which do not qualify for their association’s national basketball tournament will be eligible. The best of the remaining schools will be selected by a committee, who will evaluate the “mid-major” programs.

How Many Teams?

The 16-Team tournament will feature a men's and women's division with 4 NCAA DII and 4 NAIA teams in two independent brackets (two 8-team tournaments).  The two bracket champions will play for the National Minority Basketball Championship.

When will this occur?

The NMBC will take place in mid-March, after all conference tournaments have concluded.   This post-season event will allow HBCUs to continue to play instead of ending their season after their conference tournament.
